It's rude to jump right in, I think. So hello and welcome to you, and thankyou for hovering on this page. What's this blog about? Well. I am a writer with a fairly full life. Ideas have to sneak into my consciousness as I'm usually doing other stuff: the day job, being a mum, and the rest. So I read, I listen to the radio, eavesdrop on conversations in the course of my day and inspiration comes when two ideas collide. This blog is a place to share some of those inspirations. I believe that to be human is to tell stories, to make patterns out of our seemingly random experiences. I want to explore how putting two disparate items together can lead to a pattern, a picture, perhaps even ... a story. Enjoy.

  1. I'm terribly excited to find another person who has stolen the name of my beloved little Dolls' Dressmaker, and I adore your writings, in addition.
    At any rate, helloa.

  2. Helloa to you too Little Miss Wren. I am glad the Doll's Dressmaker still gets some love in the 21st century. When I was looking for a blog name, Jenny Wren popped into my head straight away - I don't know why, perhaps because it signifies a small but clear voice. But that was taken, as were most of the other variations. Then thanks to Google I discovered the existence of Bella Wilfer (and Jenny Wren the Paul McCartney song, but that's a whole other story). So I didn't even read Our Mutual Friend until after I'd started the blog. But (she adds hastily) I love it now and am discovering as I write the resonances of those two characters in what I right. Plus Dickens is right back on my reading list for this year. Happy writing (and reading) to you too, and thanks for taking the time to comment.

  3. That would be 'in what I write'.
